Early Childhood Program (3-6 Years Old)

At Pearlily Montessori, our vision is to strengthen children’s characters through education using the Montessori Method. This method is based on a holistic approach and focuses on the emotional, psychological, and social growth of children. It stresses independence, freedom (within certain limits), and respect for a child’s natural development. The method encourages children to engage with a variety of things in order to help them develop the power of self-discipline and concentration. Following the prescribed curriculum for 3-6 year olds, the Pearlily Montessori Curriculum centers around areas of study in Practical Life, Sensorial Activities, Language, Mathematics, and Cultural Studies.

Practical Life Practical Life activities fall into four main categories: care of self, grace and courtesy, control of movement and care of the environment. These daily life activities benefit children in school and at home. They develop good habits when they learn how to do everday activities independently.

Sensorial Activities Sensorial learning helps children classify, sort, and discriminate what they explore in their surroundings. As children explore things with their hands, they develop their fine motor skills while paying attention to small differences in what they touch, see, taste, smell, hear, and taste. These interactive experiences lay the foundation for the skills needed in math, geometry, and language.

Language Children learn how to write and then read using hands-on materials in the classroom. First, they learn the letter sounds and how to put sounds together to make words. Then they start to build sentences. Next, they learn how to grasp the pencil correctly. When these skills have been developed, young children start to read spontaneously. Math Through hands-on activities, children learn to identify numerals and match them to their quantity. They also explore patterns in the number system. They learn when they are ready at their individual pace and level of interest. When children explore and apply a step-by-step approach to learning math, they learn to love math. They don’t just memorize facts, they have a deeper understanding of them. Cultural Studies Children discover similarities and differences among peoples and cultures by seeing symbolic items; being exposed to foreign languages, songs, and dances; and other cultural practices. As children study History, Geography, Foreign Languages, Science, Botany, Zoology, Art, and Music, they acquire a deeper understanding and appreciation of the world around them and their place in it.
